A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 40 in Â鶹´«Ã½ on Wednesday.

Troopers got a call about a man in a ditch between exits 104 and 103 around 9:22 a.m., said Trooper D.R. Lane.

Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene first and found the man dead in the ditch, said First Sgt. D.J. Wakefield with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Debris left behind on the scene led troopers to believe the man was hit by a white tractor-trailer that left the scene, Lane said.

The man’s identity has not been released.

Troopers believe the man had been there for at least a few hours, Lane said.
