Two women are facing more than 50 counts of animal cruelty after law enforcement seized ducks, dogs, cats and a ferret from a Lenoir home on Thursday.
Lisa Maria Meatyard, 40, is charged with 59 counts of animal cruelty, sex offender at or near child premises and a parole violation. Meatyard is a registered sex offender, according to the North Carolina Sex Offenders Registry. Karen Renee Harris is charged with 59 counts of animal cruelty, Caldwell County said in a news release.
Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement officers and the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department seized 66 animals living in hoarding conditions from a home on Greasy Creek Road in Lenoir. Officers seized 58 dogs, three ducks, four cats and a ferret, the county said.
Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement is caring for the animals until the animals can be released to vetted rescue groups, the county said.

Meatyard is being held under a $99,000 bond in the Caldwell County Detention Center. Harris was not listed as an inmate on Friday.
