Three people were charged with concealing an August death after a body was found in the Johns River in Burke County.
Three Â鶹´«Ã½ residents, Robert Ford Dale, 58, Rocky Lee Dale, 35, and Lorie Knight Stephens, 50, were charged with destroying a body or remains to conceal an unnatural death, according to warrants filed at the Burke County Courthouse.
Investigators with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office said kayakers found a body at the canoe access near Corpening Bridge over the Johns River on Aug. 30, according to a press release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
The body was identified as Mark Dwayne Mitchell.
Deputies executed a search warrant at 2786 Pax Hill Road, Morganton, on Friday, Sept. 6, leading to charges against the Dales and Stephens.
Rocky Dale was held without bond. Robert Dale was held under a $135,000 bond. Stephens was held under a $75,000 bond, the release said.
