The Glen Alpine Board of Aldermen voted to purchase a 2.5-acre property with a warehouse that’s partially owned by the town’s attorney.
The town of Glen Alpine purchased this property at 201 W. Main St.
The property, located at 201 W. Main St., is owned by Bottom Drop LLC. Bottom Drop’s registered agents are Rob Denton, the town’s attorney, and Robert Collett, according to records from the North Carolina Secretary of State’s office.
Aldermen voted at the board’s regular December meeting to buy the property for $319,500, but held a special-called meeting on Dec. 16 to approve a budget amendment to pay for the property. The town ended up spending $321,175 with closing costs and attorney fees, said Crystal Reed, clerk to the board. The tax value of the property is $237,005, according to county property records.
Glen Alpine Mayor Michelle Lewis said what the town will use the property for has yet to be determined.

“We don’t know yet,†Lewis said. “Future betterment of the town is what we’re looking at it for. It would have to have renovations, but you know there’s grants for renovations. We just felt like with it being there, a little bit over 2 acres, no existing property, it’s just something we want to go ahead and scoop up.â€
Lewis said the board had attorney Rod Wilcox advise them during the sale of the property.
Reed said Denton and Wilcox told her there was no appraisal done for the property.
