William Harold Clontz
November 16, 1942 - June 9, 2024
William Harold Clontz, 82, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, James Carl Clontz, passed on January 17, 1994; mother, Ruby M. Clontz, passed on April 5, 1999; and brother, James Donald Clontz, passed on April 9, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gail Miller Clontz; son, Aaron B. Clontz; daughter-in-law, Angela Clontz; and grandson, William Douglas Clontz.
William served as an officer in the United States Coast Guard for 33 years and retired as a commander. He was a part of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. He received the Coast Guard Rifleman Ribbon, Coast Guard Expert Pistol Shot Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal, and Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon.
William received his Bachelor of Arts in History from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He received his Master of Arts in History from Appalachian State University and his Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Idaho. William was a professor, middle school teacher, and a librarian. He worked at Herbert J. Saunders Middle School in Manassas, VA, where he touched the lives of countless students. William was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, VA.
