Paul Gibson Soper
October 16, 1951 - September 12, 2024
Paul Soper was a man of many talents never missing an opportunity to share a smile or foster curiosity. A lifelong learner, Paul most recently enjoyed playing stringed instruments and was known for his pottery, but previous passions include sailing, flying (PPL), welding, tennis, beekeeping, diving and too many more to list. For those fortunate enough to know him, Paul will forever be remembered by his whit, charisma and his ability to quickly immerse himself in a new topic, positively impacting those around him. Easily recognizable by his suspenders and sunhat, you knew he was coming to tell a joke or give encouragement; either way, he always left somewhere better than he found it.
Paul Gibson Soper, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Born in England, Paul spent most of his life in the U.S. and eventually settled in Morganton, NC with his wife and their sons. Survived by Benita Paulette Soper, his wife of 35 years, and their sons Toby, James (Deborah) Soper, and William (Anne) Soper. Paul especially loved being a grandpa to Liam, Octavia and Ophelia. Paul was born to the late Cyril Hector Gibson Soper and Gwendolyn Grace Soper (Chudley) and was the youngest of five children. Preceded by brothers John and Robert Soper, sister Jane and her husband David Armstrong. He is survived by his brother Richard, sisters-in-law: Valerie Soper, Lisa Soper, and Sandra Soper, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held for friends and family late in 2025, TBD. If you have fond memories of Paul, please join us.
Please allow Paul's memory to brighten your days, encourage your journey and remind you to help those around you.
