Heartland Institute a questionable source
In the Dec. 31, 2024, edition of The News Herald, an editorial praised Trump鈥檚 victory as the best thing that happened in 2024. The piece was written by the Editorial Director of The Heartland Institute. The Heartland Institute is a conservative 鈥渢hink tank鈥 known for its rejection of both the scientific consensus on climate change and the negative health impacts of smoking.
The Heartland Institute worked with the tobacco company Phillip Morris throughout the 1990s to discredit the health risks of secondhand smoke and lobbied against smoking bans. Since the 1990s it has been a leading promoter of climate change denial.
So, it helps to check out the source of 鈥渙pinions鈥 in the News Herald. The News Herald could do better than publish opinions by people so corrupt that they deny the health risks of smoking and who promote climate change denial. No wonder they thought Trump鈥檚 victory was so wonderful.
