The back-to-back Division II national champion and preseason No. 1 Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Triathlon team returned on Friday, competing in the East Tennessee State University Aquathon.
Without their top four racers, the Bears put together a second-place finish. LR notched 146 points, falling by just one point to East Tennessee State University. ETSU finished in seventh at last year’s Division I national championship. King finished in third with 67 points, while Northern Kentucky scored 64 points to take fourth. Hampton rounded out the field with 45 points.
The race featured a 500-yard swim and 2-mile run. The Bears placed three in the top-four. Zoila Sicilia was the runner-up with a time of 18:54, Isis Gaskin took third at 18:59, and Alessandra Maso finished fourth in 19:02. Morgan Barnes in eighth (20:19) and Alex Linden in 12th (21:06) also logged top-15 finishes for LR.

The Bears will compete again on Sept. 14 at the Davis County Tri Cup in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. On Sept. 15, LR will compete in the Lake Davidson Triathlon in Davidson, North Carolina.
