The Lenoir-Rhyne football team rebounded Saturday, taking down Newberry College 24-3 in Hickory.
Quarterback Jalen Ferguson connected with DeAree Rogers for two touchdowns, and the Bears defense held the Wolves to just 1-of-13 on third-down conversions.
“It felt great to finally be back between the bricks,†said head coach Doug Socha.
Socha said he was proud of the team’s effort.
Ferguson connected with Rogers early in the second quarter for the first score of the game. Later in the quarter, after a 21-yard interception return by Jaelin Willis, Jake Brown made it 10-0 with a 25-yard field goal.
Ferguson’s second touchdown pass to Rogers, a 48-yard strike, put the Bears up 17-3 in the third quarter. Alex Boyd broke away for a 53-yard run to score on LR’s next possession.

Ferguson went 25-for-36 for 328 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Rogers finished with three receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Adonis McDaniel led the team with five receptions for 98 yards. Boyd ran for 92 yards and a touchdown.
