VALDESE — Senior Braxton King drilled four first-quarter 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points as the Freedom boys basketball team completed the season sweep of county rival Draughn, winning an 80-40 mercy-rule nonconference game on the road on Tuesday night.
FHS previously had opened the season with an 80-45 victory over the Wildcats on Nov. 20 at home in Â鶹´«Ã½.
In Tuesday’s contest, the Patriots (6-1) jumped ahead 27-6 after a quarter, 49-26 by halftime and 72-34 after three periods before Ke’Andre Davis’ basket to start the fourth quarter initiated the running clock in the 40-point victory.
In addition to King, Freedom had double-figure scorers in King Johnson (15 points), Amore Connelly (12) and Kobe Johnson (12). The rest of FHS’ offensive output came from Kaden Davis (six points), Amare Williams (six), Ian Clark (four), Ke’Andre Davis (four), Dominic Lee (three) and DeAndre Caldwell (one).

Freshman Cayden Lewis led Draughn (1-5) with 11 points, with senior Kayden Lytle (10) close behind. Also scoring for DHS were Blair Cooper (eight points), Connor Houston (seven), Emery Clark (two) and Marshall Brinkley (two).
East Burke 83, Hibriten 53
The Cavaliers (5-2) enjoyed their largest win of the season so far in nonconference play at home in Icard on Tuesday, going up 21-12 after the first quarter, 43-30 by halftime and 67-42 after three periods before leading the fourth quarter 16-11 to win by 30.
Owen Hartmann poured in 29 points for EBHS and was joined in double digits by Luke Demiter (12 points), Dautry Ragle (11) and Barger Shook (10). Additional EB scoring came from Jay Dixon (nine points), Cannon Morrison (six), Carter Bennett (four) and D.J. Weston (two).
The Panthers’ top scorers were Damarion Gaither-Walton (17 points) and Holden Woodward (11).
Patton 68, Polk County 63
The Panthers (2-7, 1-0 Mountain Foothills 7 1A/2A Conf.) were victorious in their conference-opener on the road in Columbus on Tuesday.
PHS’ lead was 17-12 after the first quarter before the visitors trailed 34-28 at halftime. Patton regained the lead, 54-47, after three periods and led by 10 points, 64-54, with 3:14 remaining in the contest before pulling out a five-point victory.
Madison 71, NCSSM-Â鶹´«Ã½ 47
The Dragons (1-9, 0-3 Western Highlands 1A/2A Conf.) stayed winless in the conference with a loss on the road in Marshall on Monday, falling behind 17-12 after a quarter, 34-30 by halftime and 60-39 after three periods before an 11-8 fourth-frame deficit rounded out the 24-point defeat.
Nash Taylor (18 points) and Nate Gutschall (15) finished in double figures for NCSSM-Â鶹´«Ã½. The visitors also received scoring contributions from Ben Ellwanger (seven points), Bransen Pittman (five) and Xander Tzendzalian (two).
Chance Penland (20 points), Dallas Bartlett (13) and Jason Eighmey (10) led the way for the Patriots.
GIRLS
East Burke 55, Hibriten 44
The Lady Cavaliers (7-0) stayed undefeated with a nonconference win at home in Icard on Tuesday, leading 16-9, 30-19 and 47-31 after each of the first three quarters before the visitors chipped into the deficit with a 13-8 fourth quarter to lose by 11 points.
Finishing in double figures for EBHS were Braelyn Stilwell (22 points) and Addison Sisk (14). The rest of EB’s scoring came from Kara Brinkley (eight points), Maci McNeil (four), Addi Brittain (three) and Anna Coble (two).
Aamori Patterson (19 points) and Draughn transfer Zoe Rector (10) led the Lady Panthers.
Polk County 60, Patton 19
The Lady Panthers (2-7, 0-1 MF7) fell in mercy-rule fashion in their conference-opener on the road in Columbus on Tuesday. No more details were available at press time.
Madison 55, NCSSM-Â鶹´«Ã½ 12
The Lady Dragons (0-8, 0-3 WHC) were denied their first win of the season with a mercy-rule conference loss on the road in Marshall on Monday, trailing 15-0 after one period, 29-5 after a half and 39-5 after three quarters before giving up a 16-7 advantage in the fourth frame to close out a 43-point loss.
Morgan Emehol (nine points) and Sofia Poingue (three) scored for NCSSM-Â鶹´«Ã½.
Sarah Ball paced the Lady Patriots with 12 points.
