A Valdese diner is getting a remodel and a new partnership.
Abele’s Family Restaurant announced in a Friday post on Facebook that Myra’s will be the restaurant’s new sister location. Myra's could reopen in early October.
The post said the restaurant is undergoing a full remodel, with the interior remodel underway. The exterior remodel won’t start until after the restaurant is up and running.
“We still have a lot of work to do, but we think everyone will be pleased,†the post said.
Name, menu get revamp
In another post, Abele’s shared a link to the new Facebook page for the restaurant, now called Myra’s Smashburgers and Creamery.
A lot of previous menu items will stick around, but some new burger choices and other handmade items will join the menu, the post said.

Breakfast will eventually be included on the menu, but likely won’t start until a couple months after the restaurant opens, the post said.
Those looking for a scoop of ice cream will get to pick it out of a new display case. The restaurant also is getting a new soft-serve machine, according to the post. Other dessert items joining the menu include hot fudge cake and strawberry shortcake.
1950s charm to stick around
It may be getting a remodel but the 1950s charm that has been a staple on Main Street in Valdese for decades isn’t going anywhere, the post said.
The diner will keep its 1950s style with the addition of some new decorations along with some of the antiques. Music from that time will play in the dining room all day.
Friday night cruise-ins also will continue, the post said.
