Two East Burke High School students have been named to North Carolina’s All-State Honors Band.
Marc Denton from East Burke earned the top spot as a bass player in the North Carolina All-State Honors Band.
Burke County Public Schools
Marc Denton and AJ Anthony were selected for the band, which is the highest honor for band students in the state. Denton was first in the state in string bass and Anthony is 12th in the state in clarinet.
Both were selected after a rigorous audition process.
“This is a goal that band students work on achieving since the start of sixth grade,†said Emily G. Bumgarner, director of bands at East Burke High School. “Very few are lucky enough to achieve it! It is rare for a school or an entire school district to have even one student make it. We are so incredibly proud to put East Burke High School on the map on this level. This is a huge deal for our school and for these two wonderful students.â€
