Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, along with over 20 other property owners, have filed a lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles and the LA Department of Water and Power. They allege that the city's decision to "drain" a local reservoir deprived firefighters of sufficient water to combat the destructive Palisades Fire, that destroyed their home. They're accusing the department of making “the conscious decision to operate the water supply system with the reservoir drained and unusable as a ‘cost-saving’ measure.†The lawsuit mentions several public officials, including LA County Public Works Director Mark Pestrella, for allegedly admitting to the shortcomings that allowed the fire to spread. “The Palisades Fire was an inescapable and unavoidable consequence of the water supply system operated by LADWP and City of Los Angeles as it was planned and constructed. The system necessarily failed, and this failure was a substantial factor in causing Plaintiffs to suffer the losses alleged in this complaint,†said attorneys Peter McNulty, Brett Rosenthal and E. Kirk Wood. According to the suit, the city decided to leave the reservoir "empty for nearly a year" in order “to seek contractor bids rather than using in-house personnel to repair†it. The reality stars and their co-plaintiffs are seeking damages, including “costs of repair, depreciation, and/or replacement of damaged, destroyed, and/or lost personal and/or real property.†Pratt went viral on TikTok after the couple's home was destroyed by the devastating Palisades Fire. Montag’s 2010 album ’Superficial’ has since reached number 54 on the Billboard 200, after Pratt urged fans to stream the song.
