ICARD — The East Burke girls basketball team’s 6-0 start now includes a season sweep of nonconference rival Draughn after Tuesday evening’s 70-33 victory.
The Lady Cavaliers already had defeated the Lady Wildcats by an 83-41 final score on the road in Valdese on Nov. 22.
In Tuesday’s victory, EBHS (6-0) led 21-6 after one quarter, 35-15 at halftime and 52-28 after three periods before closing out the 37-point victory with an 18-5 advantage in the fourth and final frame.
Kara Brinkley and Braelyn Stilwell led the way for EB with 19 points apiece. They were joined in double figures by Addi Brittain and Addison Sisk, who supplied 10 points each. Also scoring were Arieanna Williamson (seven points) and Journi McDowell (five).
Draughn (1-3) was led by 12 points from Taylor Holder. The remainder of the visitors’ scoring came from Kenley Berry (eight points), Jacey Davis (seven), Bree Winkler (four) and Mati Kincaid (two).

A.C. Reynolds 72, Freedom 60
The Lady Patriots (2-3) suffered their third straight loss following a 2-0 start, falling at home in Â鶹´«Ã½ on Tuesday after trailing 21-13 at the end of the first quarter, 32-25 at halftime and 48-44 after three periods before the visiting Lady Rockets secured their 12-point victory with a 24-16 fourth frame.
Peyton Caldwell (18 points) led the way for FHS and was joined in double digits by Haven Gladden (16) and Cynica Caldwell (10). Also scoring for the hosts were Kaitlyn Hagmann (nine points) and Ava Cooke (seven).
Peyton Harvey poured in 30 points for A.C. Reynolds, which also had 19 points from Adalyn Wilkinson and 13 from Addie Long.
Bandys 70, Patton 13
The Lady Panthers (2-5) were dealt a mercy-rule nonconference loss on the road in Catawba on Tuesday, falling behind 27-7 after a quarter, 48-11 by halftime and 61-13 after three periods to start the running clock, which led to a 9-0 fourth frame in favor of the host Lady Trojans in a 57-point victory.
Karson Pinkerton (six points), Leah Clark (four), Melina Bernabe (two) and Hayden Hein (one) scored for PHS.
Leading the way for Bandys were Lexi Vaughn (18 points), Addison Bell (11) and Hayley Cross (10).
BOYS
A.C. Reynolds 73, Freedom 70 (OT)
The Patriots (4-1) suffered their first loss of the winter in overtime at home in Â鶹´«Ã½ on Tuesday night.
FHS led 17-3 after a quarter, but the lead evaporated to just 32-31 at halftime and 49-44 after three periods before the Rockets took the fourth frame 17-12 and the bonus period by a 12-9 margin in the three-point win.
King Johnson led Freedom with 28 points and Ke’Andre Davis added 10. Also scoring for the hosts were Braxton King (nine points), Amore Connelly (six), Kobe Johnson (six), Jonah Griggs (five), Amare Williams (three), Kaden Davis (two) and Daivyon Feaster-Hicks (one).
Grant Clayton’s 25 points led A.C. Reynolds, which also had 17 points from Declan Brown and 11 from Zach Dickey.
Bandys 89, Patton 56
The Panthers (1-6) had their losing streak extended to five games with a 33-point defeat on the road in Catawba on Tuesday night, falling behind 16-8 after one quarter and 38-18 by halftime en route to the loss.
Nathan Waters led Patton with 29 points. Also scoring for the visitors were Cohen Christian (seven points), Laine Barrier (six), Olando Norman (five), Cayden Roscoe (three), Cole Attaway (two), Landry Duvall (two) and Louie Skelly (two).
The host Trojans were paced by Landon Vaughan (18 points), Easton Ledford (17), Kayden Henrickson (12) and Brady Swett (10).
