Burke County United Way gave Good Samaritan Clinic grant money to buy a generator to prevent future loss of medications during periods of power outages.
The clinic on East Parker Road experienced a loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of medication during the Hurricane Helene-related outages. Although 90% of the medications were ultimately recouped, the event underscored the need for reliable backup power.
Officials from Burke County United Way presented Good Samaritan Clinic a check for $17,200 to help purchase and install a generator to make sure medicine isn’t lost during power outages.

The Burke County Community Foundation contributed $10,000, and on April 9, Burke County United Way presented a check for $17,200 to cover the remainder of the project. The United Way dollars were donated by individuals across the region to the organization’s Hurricane Relief Fund.
