A Â鶹´«Ã½ woman was charged in Kinston, North Carolina, after a break-in at an old mall on April 11.
Meaghan Reason, 34, was charged with felony larceny and felony breaking and entering after the incident, the Kinston Police Department said in a Facebook post Monday.
Officers were dispatched to the old Vernon Park Mall in Lenoir County on Friday, April 11, the police department said. They searched the building but couldn’t find any suspects.
A short time later, a police officer from another department received a call about a person trapped in the ductwork of the old mall. Kinston police officers and the Kinston Fire Department responded to the scene and found 45-year-old Michael Sturkey, of Black Creek, about 25 feet up lying on the ductwork, the police department said.
Officers negotiated with Sturkey for about 25 minutes before he voluntarily climbed down a ladder. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to an area hospital for medical treatment unrelated to the incident, the police department said. He was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering.
In a Monday update, the department said further investigation led them to charge Reason and 42-year-old Ricky Shadding Jr., of Black Creek, North Carolina, in connection with the break-in as well.
A copy of the warrant for Reason’s arrest said she broke into the building and stole copper, cables and computer modems valued at around $1,000.
Reason is due to appear in Lenoir County court on April 28, court records show.
