A Lenoir man who law officers say was assaulted in Alexander County on Monday has died, according to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.
Casey Charles Bentley, 33, of Lenoir, is now charged with murder. Bentley was initially charged on Monday with assault inflicting serious bodily injury, Alexander County Sheriff Chad Pennell said in a news release on Thursday.
On Monday, deputies found Kenneth Young, 55, of Lenoir, suffering from life-threatening injuries at the Wittenburg Access Area in Bethlehem around 1 a.m., Pennell said.
Pennell said multiple teenagers were at a gathering at a home in Alexander County. Young was accused of making inappropriate comments to Bentley’s teenage daughter at the gathering, Pennell said.
Bentley picked up his daughter at the residence. Young was not there. Bentley later found Young at the Wittenburg Access Area loading a boat, Pennell said.
