Meteorologists and former National Weather Service leaders say reducing vital weather balloon launches will degrade the accuracy of forecasts just as severe weather season kicks in.
The deadliest tornado in recorded U.S. history occurred 100 years ago. The Tri-State Tornado touched down in southeastern Missouri on March 18, 1925.
The most fatalities as of Saturday morning were in Missouri, authorities said, with at least 12 deaths.
