A Â鶹´«Ã½ man was charged after police said gunshots were fired at a car with a child inside.
Davenport
Leslie Davenport, 54, of Morganton, was charged with felony discharging a firearm into a moving vehicle after an attack on Monday night, according to information from the Â鶹´«Ã½ Department of Public Safety.Â
Officer's were called to Davenport's home on Alexander Avenue on Monday for a possible kidnapping, the department said.
The department said the parents of a child had a disagreement over child custody. One of the parents took the child and left the residence. The other parent tried to stop him and get the child out of the car as it was leaving. The parent was hit by the door of the vehicle, the department said.Â
Davenport, the child's grandfather, shot multiple rounds into the vehicle as it was leaving, the department said.Â
The vehicle that fled the scene was found by public safety officers and deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office on Hillhaven Circle near U.S. Highway 64/N.C. Highway 18. The parent and child were found in the woods, public safety said.
Everyone involved in the dispute was taken to public safety headquarters, where officials from the Burke County Department of Social Services met with investigators to make sure the child was safe for the night, public safety said.
Burke County EMS checked out all of the parties involved.
Davenport is due in court Thursday, public safety said. He was held without bond.
