Two Hickory men were charged after a traffic stop in the Valdese area on Sunday.Â
Dyer
William Trace Dyer, 26, of Hickory, was charged with felony trafficking opium or heroin and possession of a schedule I controlled substance, according to a release from the Burke County Sheriff's Office.
Griffith
Matthew James Griffith, 30, of Hickory, was charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, the release said.
Deputies pulled over a vehicle driven by Griffith on Eldred Street in Valdese on March 31, the release said. A K9 alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle and the occupants were searched, the release said.Â
Deputies found Griffith in possession of about 3 grams Psilocybin mushrooms, about 3.6 grams of suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, the release said.Â
Dyer was found in possession of about 5.6 grams of suspected fentanyl, the release said.Â
Griffith was booked under a $3,000 secured bond, the release said. Dyer was placed in jail under a 48-hour hold until his first court appearance Friday, April 4, when a judge will set his bond.
