A second man has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine after a SWAT raid at a home in the Hickory area of Burke County.Â
Johnny McTerry Smith, 55, of Hickory, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, according to information from the Burke County Sheriff's Office.
The charges came after deputies along with multiple other local, state and federal agencies executed a search warrant at the home where Smith was living with another man on South Fork Avenue in the Hickory area of Burke County on Dec. 12, the sheriff’s office said.
During the search of the home, deputies found paraphernalia and cash consistent with maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances. They found more than 2.8 ounces of methamphetamine and 10 grams of crack cocaine in Smith’s possession, the sheriff’s office said. They also found four guns in his possession, one of which was stolen, the sheriff's office said.

William Chase Pate, 38, of Hickory, received the same charges after the search when law enforcement found about 2.2 pounds of methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office previously said.
Smith’s bond was set at $100,000 secured, according to the sheriff’s office.
The arrests came after a collaboration by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the NC Department of Prisons, NC State Bureau of Investigation, ATF, Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Hickory Police Department and Â鶹´«Ã½ Public Safety.Â
