A man turned himself in late Monday night after a Sunday afternoon knife attack on Eldred Street in Valdese.
Aden Shane Lunsford, 21, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, according to information from the Valdese Police Department.Â
A 67-year-old woman was walking in the 200-block of Eldred Street when a man assaulted her with a knife, the police department said.
Someone who witnessed the assault stopped their vehicle and the suspect ran from the scene, leaving the knife behind, the police department said. The suspect drove away in a silver 2008 Toyota Camry, according to the police department.
Information about the attack was released Monday afternoon. Shortly after, a woman contacted Valdese Police Chief Marc Sharpe to say her son, Lunsford, wished to turn himself in, the police department said.

Lunsford went to the police department Monday night and confessed to the assault, according to the police department. Law enforcement officers collected additional evidence related to the incident.
Lunsford was being held at the Burke County Jail without bond, the police department said.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation all assisted Valdese Police Department with the case.
