One man won a car from Burke County United Way in December.
Burke County United Way worked with Paramount Hyundai Valdese for the 2nd Annual Car Giveaway Event, held at noon on Dec. 19, 2024, at the Paramount Hyundai Valdese showroom.
Leading up to the event, 12 finalists were randomly selected. Donors who contributed $100 or more to BCUW in 2024 were eligible to opt-in for a chance to win a new 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz, provided by Paramount Hyundai Valdese.
During the event, representatives from United Way and Paramount Automotive, as well as the finalists’ friends, family members and employers gathered around the vehicle inside the showroom.
Each finalist randomly chose a number between one and 12 to determine their drawing order. One by one, in order, the finalists selected a key fob from a Christmas stocking. Only one key fob had the power to start the car. After four finalists tried unsuccessfully to start the car, Brent Hoffman turned the key and started the car.
